Neshannock Senior, Matthew Natale, Helps “Kill the Chill” for Those in Need this Winter

For most 12th grade students, the middle of the school year is when senioritis starts to set in. The thought of graduation just around the corner and the light at the end of the tunnel is becoming brighter! However, Matthew Natale, a senior at Neshannock High School, has a different story. Rather than focusing on counting down the days to graduation, he chose to pull together a community service project, which he titled, “Kill the Chill”; a campaign he set up with the help of fellow students, Ty Sear, Jonah Vitale, Isabel Sink, Brooke Monico and Abby Briggs.

With one goal in mind, Matt and his peers set out to help get those without the essential winter-wear some warm solutions for the cold winter ahead. Coats, hats, gloves, scarves, earmuffs and so on were collected for all ages in bins during various Neshannock basketball games, including the Christmas tournament and the championship game. Natale reached out to LCCAP CEO, Tom Scott, to see that the agency be a liaison for distributing the items.

When asked what it was that made the senior want to put this together, Natale said “I did this out of the goodness of my heart. I wanted to give back to the less fortunate who were unable to have something that most of us take for granted”. Natale wants to thank his fellow students and the local community for their help with his Kill the Chill campaign. “I am really pleased with the generosity of everyone who came out and donated to give back to a great cause”. In addition to all of the winter wear donated, monetary donations totaling $500 came in to help as well. He also had a sponsor in Reed Oil out of New Castle, who gave money to purchase new coats.

Natale will graduate from Neshannock this spring and was recently nominated by Congressman Mike Kelly to attend the U.S. Naval Academy. We wish him well and thank him and his team for helping so many of those in need this winter season.
