Neshannock Lancer 5th Grader Camdyn Cole Wins Elks Hoop Shoot Contest

Neshannock Lancer 5th grader Camdyn Cole won the girls 10 and 11-year-old age division at the Elks Hoop Shoot local contest at Shenango High School on January 10th.  Camdyn’s victory qualified her to compete in the district contest held at Robert Morris on January 31st which she won as well.  She then moved onto the state finals at Penn State on March 12th where Camdyn defeated the 8 district champions in Pennsylvania to become the state champion! That was not all however, after winning the state championship Camdyn’s victory qualified her for the Northeast Central Regional, which was held at 10 a.m. March 19th at Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She competed against the state champions from New Jersey and New York. Camdyn was victorious again at regionals!

The hoop shoot contest began nationwide in January with approximately 500,000 girls in the 10-11 age bracket and now a total of 12 young ladies remain.  The 12 district champions will shoot it out at the Elks National Championships, held from April 14 to 17 in Chicago.

The competitions included an initial 10 free throws in a row for each girl, followed by an additional 15 shots. Camdyn’s winning score locally was 17 out of 25, which she followed up with scores of 22 of 25 in the district, state, and regional contests.

Camdyn becomes only the 2nd student from New Castle in 44 years to compete for the national title.  Let’s cheer on Camdyn in her final competition in Chicago.  You can encourage her by sending a Hoop Shoot E-Greeting by visiting enf.elks.org/Greetings to send a message.  The last day to post messages is Wednesday, April 6, 2016.
