Kindergarteners Learn Some Salty Science Facts!

How Does Salt Melt Ice?

After spending some time in the science lab with Dr. Stephanie Corrette-Bennett, kindergarten students at NMS just may be able to tell you the science behind melting ice with salt!  Dr. CB spent some time going over important science facts, like the freezing point of water, different types of salt, molecules, crystal structures and more!  Then, students got to have some hands-on and minds-on fun!

Each student got to take a turn pouring colored salt onto small blocks of ice before patiently waiting for the science magic to happen!  The students loved watching the salt take action!  Given our current chilly temperatures, this relevant learning experience was perfect for our students.
